There may be situations where you need to reduce the size of your league due to inactive managers or owners who no longer wish to participate.
Before making any changes, your league must be in pre-draft mode. If your league already completed its draft, you can create a supplemental draft to return the league to pre-draft mode. Once the league size has been reduced, you can simply start and immediately end the supplemental draft without making any selections.
If your goal is simply to reduce the number of teams in the league, follow the steps below:
Step 1 - Remove the Owners
First, remove the managers who will not be returning.
Navigate to:
League Settings → Member Settings → Select the username → Remove from League
Step 2 - Move the Teams Being Removed to the Bottom of the League
Next, you'll need to move the departing teams to the bottom of the league standings in Member Settings.
For example, if you're reducing a 12-team league to 10 teams, the teams currently occupying the 11th and 12th roster positions will be the teams that are removed when the league size is decreased.
On the mobile app:
Commish Settings → Edit Rosters & Draft Picks → Switch Players to a Roster
Select the roster currently in the 11th position and swap its players with the team you intend to remove. Repeat this process for the 12th position.
Important: If any draft picks have been traded, make sure those picks are reassigned appropriately before continuing. You'll need to handle any traded assets according to your league's preferences.
Step 3 - Reassign Owners
Return to Member Settings and assign each remaining manager to their correct roster.
At this point, the teams you plan to remove should be located at the bottom of the league, while all remaining managers are assigned to their correct rosters.
Step 4 - Reduce the League Size
You will need to be in pre-draft mode for this step. If you are not, go to the League Settings and select the option to Add Supplemental Draft.
Once you have done that, go to League Settings and decrease the number of teams (for example, from 12 teams to 10 teams).
Once the league size is reduced, the players on the removed rosters will immediately be dropped from those teams.
Important: Consider Locking Moves First
Before reducing the league size, think about what you want to happen with the players being released from those teams.
Make sure your desired waiver settings are in place so those players don't unexpectedly become available as free agents.
You can also temporarily lock all roster moves before reducing the league size. This gives you time to make any additional adjustments or prepare your waiver/dispersal process before managers can add the newly available players.
Once everything looks correct, you can unlock roster moves and continue with your league as usual.
