Sleeper offers 3rd Round Reversal (3RR) as an alternative draft format for leagues that want a more balanced version of a traditional snake draft.
Most fantasy platforms offer two standard draft formats:
Linear Draft — draft order stays the same every round
Snake Draft — draft order reverses each round
Snake drafts are the more common option, since they help balance draft position by giving teams at the beginning and end of the order back-to-back picks.
What is 3rd Round Reversal?
3rd Round Reversal (or 3RR) works almost exactly like a standard snake draft, with one key difference:
Instead of the draft reversing normally at the start of Round 3, it reverses again.
This means the team with the last pick in Round 1 also receives the first pick in Round 3, before the draft continues in a normal snake format for the rest of the draft.
In the example above, Team 1 drafts Robinson and Allen with his first two picks. In a standard snake draft, Team 1 would also make the first pick in Round 3.
With 3RR enabled, that pick instead goes to Team 12, as the draft reverses again at the start of Round 3 before continuing as a normal snake draft.
Why use 3rd Round Reversal?
The goal of 3RR is to reduce the advantage of drafting at the very top of the order.
In a traditional snake draft, the team with the 1st overall pick gets access to the elite top player and still receives the turn at the Round 2 / Round 3 wraparound.
3RR shifts some of that advantage toward teams drafting later, helping create a more balanced draft experience.

Snake Draft with 3rd Round Reversal

Mean of first 5 picks: 31.6
Team 12 receives picks:
12, 13, 25, 48, 49
Mean of first 5 picks: 29.4
While the difference is not dramatic, 3RR creates a slightly more balanced draft by preserving the benefit of the 1st overall pick while giving later draft positions better access to upper-tier players.
