What is a Chopped League?
A Chopped League is a redraft fantasy league where, instead of head-to-head matchups, all teams compete against the entire league each week. The goal is simple: don’t finish with the fewest points.
Each week, the team with the lowest score is eliminated — or “chopped” — from the league.
When a team is chopped, its entire roster is released to the waiver wire, where the remaining teams can bid on those players.
The process repeats weekly until only one team remains — the champion.
Chop Tab 101
Chopping Block – Dynamic Weekly Standings: This is where you’ll spend most of your time on gameday. The Chopping Block shows your live projected standings throughout the week, letting you see exactly where you rank among your leaguemates.
The list is inverted — meaning the team with the lowest projected score appears at the top — so you can quickly spot who’s in trouble (see image above)
Chop Zone: The team with the lowest projected points will appear here. They’re in danger of being chopped from the league. At the end of the week, the team with the fewest actual points will officially be in the Chop Zone… and sadly, chopped from the league.
Danger: The teams closest to the Chop Zone. If you’re in this section, your projected points are dangerously close to the lowest in the league — and you’re at risk of being chopped.
Safe: Exactly where you want to be. This section lists the teams most likely to survive the week, based on their projected points.
Strategy
The focus of Chopped Leagues is simple: survive.
Unlike traditional redraft leagues, you’ll want to prioritize impactful, consistent players right from the start to avoid finishing with the lowest score. Rookies can be riskier picks if they need time to develop. Short-term planning is crucial.
Managing your FAAB budget is also key. If you survive Week 1, should you blow your entire budget on a star player that just hit waivers… or save it for later, when more teams (and players) are eliminated? These tough decisions can make or break your season.
Recommended Settings for Chopped Leagues
We recommend the following settings for chopped leagues if this is your first season:
PPR
18 teams (ensures the season lasts the full NFL schedule; fewer teams will make the season end earlier)
FAAB: $1,000 season budget to bid on players
2 IR slots
Trades: Off (trades are not allowed in Chopped Leagues)
Common Questions
Are there playoffs?
No. Chopped Leagues are Last Man Standing formats.
Why can't I make a trade?
Trades are disabled by default to keep the competition fair and waiver-wire focused. The commissioner can enable trading if desired.
