🏀 Positional Designations Info & Requests

Everything you need to know about players' positional tags for fantasy basketball

Written by Sleeper Bot

We want to provide these details so you know what to expect regarding player positions on Sleeper.

Available Positions

Players can be assigned to five different positions:

  • PG – Point Guard

  • SG – Shooting Guard

  • SF – Small Forward

  • PF – Power Forward

  • C – Center

A player can have up to three positions at once on Sleeper. Some players will have only one position, while many will have two.

For example, Cooper Flagg is eligible as a small forward, power forward, and a shooting guard so you can slot him in at any of those positions. In fantasy basketball, players with multiple positions are often considered more valuable because of the added lineup flexibility they provide.

How Positional Eligibility Is Determined

We begin by using official team designations to establish a player’s primary position.

Because players frequently shift roles and lineups throughout the season, positions may be added or adjusted over time.

We do not rely on strict minimum thresholds for games played or minutes logged at a position when determining eligibility.

Instead, we evaluate each player on a case-by-case basis using factors such as:

  • Past and projected usage

  • How consistently they are playing a role

  • How their team is utilizing them

  • How far along the NBA season is

Timeline for Positional Changes

We understand that these positions can directly impact users' rosters and draft decisions, especially for those in dynasty leagues.

With that in mind, we will not remove any positions from a player during the NBA regular season unless we feel that it is absolutely warranted.

The further we progress into the NBA regular season, the less likely we are to add positions to any player. We don't want to suddenly give a user a big advantage with a few weeks remaining in their season or in the fantasy playoffs unless the player clearly warrants a new positional tag.

Once the NBA season comes to an end, we will remove and modify any positions as necessary. Throughout the offseason, we will continue to make adjustments based on past and expected usage.

Requesting a Positional Change

Because player roles change so often, we offer users a direct way to provide feedback on positional eligibility.

By selecting the request option below, you can complete a Google Form for any player you believe should:

  • Gain a new position

  • Have a position removed

All submissions are sent directly to our team for review.

Please note:

  • You must be signed in to your email account to access the form

  • A copy of your submission will automatically be sent to you

  • Submitting a request does not guarantee a positional change

  • Requests do not guarantee an individual response from Sleeper

Rest assured, our team reviews submissions regularly.

Additional Notes

  • Sleeper reserves the right to modify player positions at any time.

  • Commissioners cannot manually edit player positions within their league.
