How Defensive Yards Allowed are Calculated
Sleeper uses official NFL gamebooks to accurately track and match all defensive statistics. By default, Defensive Yards Allowed are calculated using Total Net Yards, which is determined by the following formula:
Total Net Yards = Net Yards Rushing + Net Yards Passing
Key Components:
Net Yards Rushing: The total rushing yards allowed against the defense.
Net Yards Passing: The total passing yards allowed, minus any yardage lost from sacks. Because a sack is considered a potential passing play, the lost yardage is deducted from the opposing team's raw passing total.
Special Teams & Return Yards
Default Setting: By default, yards allowed by your defense are NOT impacted by opposing punt or kick returns, as the standard defensive unit is not on the field for those plays.
Optional Customization: If you want return yards to count against your defense, you can enable this in your league settings under the Special Teams Defense scoring section. Enabling this will add all opposing punt and kick return yards directly to your defense's total yards allowed for the matchup.
