Ring Chaser: How to Play & Rules

Rules and how-to-play guide for the Ring Chaser mini-game (NBA 9-cat).

Written by Sleeper HQ

The goal: Build your perfect 9-cat NBA team. Roll a team and season, draft one of its players into your lineup, and fill all 9 spots. Then go head-to-head with the opponent across every category. Win more categories than you lose.

Play at ringchaser.sleeper.com or in the Sleeper app.

The 9 Categories

Your team faces off against the opponent in nine standard fantasy basketball categories:

  1. Points

  2. Rebounds (boards)

  3. Assists (dimes)

  4. Steals

  5. Blocks

  6. Three-pointers made

  7. Field goal % (FG%)

  8. Free throw % (FT%)

  9. Turnovers (fewer is better)

How to Play

1. Roll a team & season

Tap Roll Team & Year to get a random NBA team from a random season.

2. Draft a player

Draft one player from that team/season into an open lineup slot. Repeat until all 9 spots are filled.

3. Re-rolls

You get 2 re-rolls per game — use them to pass on a team/season you don't want.

4. Go head-to-head

Once your lineup is full, you face the CPU opponent. The opponent is revealed slot by slot, and each of the 9 categories is compared head-to-head in a diverging-bar matchup (you vs. opponent).

Scoring

  • Team totals are games-played weighted. Each player's per-game stats are weighted by games played, so an 82-game player counts more than a 40-game one.

  • You win the game by winning more of the 9 categories than you lose. Remember that turnovers are a category where fewer is better.

Sharing

Screenshot your final head-to-head card to share your team. The game lives at ringchaser.sleeper.com and in the Sleeper app.
