Player AutoSubs is a league setting that allows team managers to designate substitute players for their starters. If a starter is inactive for their game, the designated substitute will automatically be placed in the starting lineup. This offers league members greater flexibility to manage player injuries in advance, rather than needing to be active right before game time.
To enable the setting, the commish must go into the General League Settings, find Player Auto-Subs (as seen in the screenshot above) and select one of the numerical options.
Keep in mind, this setting is only available to commissioners in the mobile app right now. We have plans to add it on the web version soon. For non-commissioners, you will need to set any auto-subs using the mobile app, and they will display on web. It is not possible for you to set players as auto-subs on the web version just yet.
The setting value denotes how many substitutions are allowed per week.
For leagues that want the flexibility to enforce game time eligibility for subs, once you enable the AutoSub setting, there's an additional option which will display below that you can toggle on: Require AutoSub To Not Play Before Starter. This will require a sub to have the same or later game time than their starter.
How to designate subs?
When you manage your line up through the Swap Player modal, there is an additional option at the bottom Set an AutoSub. Once you tap that, it will bring up eligible bench players that can be designated as the sub. Player eligibility is as follows:
Both the Starter and the Sub's games has yet to begin
Sub's position must be eligible for the starter's roster position. E.g.:
If your starter is in the RB-slot, you can designate any bench player that would qualify for the RB-slot.
If your starter is in a Flex-slot, the sub's position must qualify for the Flex-slot.
You can swap out a starter's sub as long as neither of their games have begun.
Where can I see my AutoSubs?
Once a player has a designated sub, you will visually see it on your team and matchup views. You will also see your opponent's subs if they have any assigned.
FAQ
When do my players lock?
As soon as one of the players in the sub-relationship kicks off, both players are locked in.
Can I use the same sub for multiple starters?
Currently no. Each sub can only match to one starter.
Does a starter need to have an injury tag (e.g. Questionable) in order to be eligible?
No, you can assign an AutoSub to any starter regardless of their injury status.
What happens to my sub if I'm over the roster limit?
You cannot designate subs if you are over the limit. But in the scenario where you started with a valid roster and assigned subs, then later during the week you complete a trade that led to your roster being over the limit, your designated subs will be honored. But you will not be able to make any changes to your roster or subs when your roster is over the limit.
